Economic Forecast Luncheon
January 30 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
Please join us for Houston’s premiere annual business event! Reserve your table and invite your clients to this valuable luncheon. Hear from one of the nation’s leading economists about the economic outlook for Houston, our state, our nation and our world.
Dr. Bill Gilmer (Director of the Institute for Regional Forecasting with the Bauer College of Business, University of Houston) will discuss business, employment, interest rates, energy, and real estate. This is a critical event for all business leaders and will help you prepare for 2020 and beyond.
Want a heads-up on Houston’s economy for 2020? Today’s local economic climate continues to be affected by energy companies, oil prices and employment trends. Dr. Gilmer will address the implications within our region of the ramping down on new and expanded chemical plant investments that have been completed along the Houston Ship Channel. Those completions will have a direct bearing on local employment.
He recently said: “The U.S. economy is still strong, which is helping the local economy continue to expand. However, with the global outlook souring amid trade tensions, growth is likely to moderate in the coming years as the U.S. – China trade war continues to takes its toll on business investments at the same time as a slowing global economy. How strong is the U.S. economy? What international and national issues will impact the overall outlook for regional and local commerce? Dr. Gilmer will provide all these answers plus many more.
Dr. Gilmer is a professor of Economics at the University of Houston. He previously served at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas for 23 years, retiring as a senior economist and vice president.
His work on the Texas economy has been recognized in the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and Forbes.
