Tell us a little bit about you. Things you like outside of school, etc.…

I’ve been an educator for the last 9 years, and my main passion and focus in English is poetry. I’m currently in graduate school at University of New Orleans pursuing an MFA while working full time. In my free time, I like to travel, am interested in photography, and work within various writing workshops.

Give us an idea of your education passion, can you tell us something of why you chose education…

My passion for education didn’t come from my passion for English. Rather, teaching was something I chose to do because I had such a hard life growing up and recognized teaching as a way to give back and to be present in the lives of those who need strong role models. I was a first generation college student and my gender and socioeconomics were defining factors which held me back in my home community. My education allowed me to transcend those barriers, and I hope by being an educator I can help my students do the same.
