Getting to know Crystal Ruiz, our featured member this month, revealed a woman on the move. This native Houstonian grew up in “Big H” as well as in April Sound at Conroe, and attended schools in

the Aldine district and Reagan High School. Beginning work early at age 15, she worked in her mom’s salon and took on all the jobs including receptionist, cashier and even shampoo girl. Today, she is preparing to continue her education and plans on enrolling in Houston Community College.

Crystal joined the CARisma Wash team and serves as event coordinator and marketing executive. In that role, she is in charge of handling all fundraising events and the marketing for their three locations. Labeling herself as a “very social person,” Crystal enjoys the support and opportunities the position gives her and “praises the organization for its community involvement and for entrusting her with the responsibility of representing such an awesome company.”

When it came time to consider Chamber membership, Crystal said, “What better way to bring a quality of service to the local community than through a well-organized and friendly organization.” Besides the Chamber membership, she stays active in the East End Chamber andthe Heights Power Women’s Network. Remember reading about her being on the move? Well that’s easy to understand because she stays on the go taking her children, Bryanna, Alex, Matthew and Jacob to the beach, parks, swimming or anything else that has to do with the outdoors. Crystal has participated in many Chamber events as a volunteer, always with a ready smile and sometime a courtesy car wash! We are pleased to have her and her many talents as a valued member.

This month we recognize a business planning professional with a creative bent for the arts. Larry Bell was born in Abilene, Texas, grew up in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School. Starting what was to ultimately be his career in business; he took the 245 mile trip south to Houston in the fall of 1963 and later earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rice University. His field of study? Well it was Psychology, an educational attribute that would serve him well throughout his career.

Taking his first job, Larry found himself becoming a Special Agent for Northwestern Mutual, but his business experience was enhanced soon after with employment in Commercial Real Estate. His arts appreciation took over when he served as Executive Director of the Concert Chorale of Houston. Getting involved in the Chamber was a natural for Larry because he is the owner of American Business Planning, LLC. Chamber membership offered him, as a new resident in the area, the opportunity to network, build relationships and make new friends. Larry’s company includes wife Anne, and they offer clients assistance with employee benefits, insurance and retirement planning. In addition to being a Certified Life Underwriter (CLU), which is the world’s most respected designation for insurance expertise, his professional participation also includes the M.D. Anderson Network, a unique cancer support group. The Bell family includes two sons, two daughters, two step children and seven grandchildren. For his spare time he enjoys singing, acting, sports and antiques. Proficient and productive members like Larry Bell are key contributors to the organization’s success. Congratulations Larry, we’re glad you moved in.
