Michael Smith

Our featured member this segment is a tall, gregarious man who since joining the Chamber in 2018, has been seen frequently at breakfast connections, business after hours, ribbon cuttings and more. Making friends and business contacts comes easy for Michael because he is a good networker. On joining the Chamber, he says “I joined the chamber to network with other businesses in the Heights community and to meet new people.

It all started in Michael’s case, when they said “go east young man, go east.” Well he did, but that was after being raised in Long Beach, California and attending local schools including Long Beach City College in Oxnard, California. In his early years, Michael, believe it or not, was a pizza delivery driver in high school and later even worked at a bed factory warehouse where he made kids beds and sofa beds. However, pizza and bed making were not his life goal and ambition which was to be a player in the National Basketball Association. But that was not to be, because Michael points out “That his first career was as a professional car transport driver for 18 years.” Moving into the medical field followed driving big rigs.

Indeed, he did go east, coming to Houston in 2000. Today he is the Director of Community Outreach for Robert Horry Sports Medicine. Robert Horry is best known for being a clutch player on the Championship Houston Rocket basketball team. With their love for “bball,” it must have been a natural attraction.

A man with many interests, Michael enjoys bowling, movies, sports and driving remote controlled cars. From a family standpoint, he proudly cites 25 years of marriage (that’s a silver anniversary), and they have 3 boys. The Chamber is pleased to have Michael Smith as a member dedicated to becoming better known from his networking skills and for generating patients for Robert Horry Sports Medicine.
